Opening Speeches

During the MYMUN conference all delegates are required to make an opening speech. Opening speeches should be prepared prior to your arrival to the conference, and are important part of any Model United Nations conference. An opening speech is where you outline your country’s policies on the issues that will be discussed in your committee. This helps delegates identify other delegates who have similar policies regarding topics and issues. You will then be able to lobby with these delegates to form a resolution to be debated.

At MYMUN, each delegate will be given one minute to make their opening speech. You should make your speech informative by using facts, statistics, and including any past efforts on the issues to support your policies. Making your opening speech interesting and exciting will help you make an impression on the other delegates.

The key to delivering a good opening speech is practicing it. The more you practice, the better your speech.
